Terms of service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the website at whenigrowup.shop and any related services provided by Chambersole Limited (trading as "When I Grow Up", "we", "us", or "our"). By using our services or placing an order, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

About us

Chambersole Limited is a company registered in England and Wales, trading as When I Grow Up. We design and produce premium personalised children's books built from a child's own answers to a set of guided questions, illustrated to feature the child throughout. Our website is whenigrowup.shop. You can contact us at any time at info@whenigrowup.shop.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to place an order. By placing an order you confirm that you are 18 or over and that you have the legal authority to enter into a contract with us.

Our books are designed to feature children, and we collect personalisation details about a child as part of the order process. You must be the child's parent, legal guardian, or have explicit permission from a parent or legal guardian to provide this information. By submitting personalisation details about a child, you confirm that you have this authority.

Placing an order

When you place an order through our website, you make an offer to buy the personalised book described in your order at the price stated. We accept your offer when we send you confirmation of your order by email. The contract between us is formed at that point.

To complete your book we will need additional information from you after purchase, including your child's answers to a set of personalisation questions and a photograph used to create the illustrations. We will email you a private access link shortly after your order is placed, with instructions for providing this information. If we are unable to receive the personalisation information within a reasonable period after purchase, we may contact you to follow up, and ultimately we reserve the right to cancel and refund the order if the information is never provided.

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any order at our discretion, including where we suspect fraudulent activity, where stock or production capacity is unavailable, or where the personalisation content provided is inappropriate, abusive, or could not lawfully be printed.

Pricing and payment

Prices for our books are shown on the website at the time you place your order. All prices are in the currency displayed at checkout and are inclusive of any applicable VAT unless otherwise stated. Free UK delivery is included; international shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your delivery address.

Payment is processed at checkout via our payment provider. We do not store your card details. By providing payment information you confirm that you are authorised to use the payment method.

If we offer multi-book discounts (such as our 2-for-£100 bundle), the discount is applied at checkout and the discounted price is the final amount payable.

Personalised goods and your right to cancel

Under the UK Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, consumers normally have a 14-day "cooling off" right to cancel online orders for any reason. This right does not apply to our books, because they are made or personalised to your specifications — once you have submitted the questionnaire answers and uploaded a photo, your book is unique to your child and cannot be resold to anyone else.

You may cancel your order without charge at any point before we begin production. Production typically begins within 24 hours of you completing the post-purchase questionnaire. If you wish to cancel before production begins, please contact us as soon as possible at info@whenigrowup.shop.

Your statutory rights regarding faulty, damaged, or misdescribed goods are unaffected by this clause and are addressed under our happiness guarantee below.

Our happiness guarantee

We stand behind every book we produce. If you are unhappy with your finished book for any of the reasons below, we will either reprint your book or refund your order in full, at your choice, with no time limit:

  • The print quality is faulty (e.g., damaged in transit, misprinted, or visually defective).
  • The personalisation contains errors not attributable to information you provided (e.g., a misspelt name we mistyped, a question answer printed incorrectly).
  • The illustrations are clearly inconsistent with the photo provided in a way that does not represent your child fairly.
  • The book did not arrive within a reasonable period after the dispatch date we communicated.

You do not need to return the physical book to receive a refund or reprint. Photographs of the issue, sent to info@whenigrowup.shop, are sufficient. We will respond promptly and resolve the issue without requiring return shipping.

This guarantee is intended to be generous and applied in good faith. We reserve the right to decline repeat refund requests where there is clear evidence of abuse (for example, multiple identical claims across separate orders).

Delivery

We aim to dispatch books within 5 days of receiving your completed personalisation information. UK orders typically arrive within a further 2–3 business days. International delivery times vary by destination and are estimated at checkout.

Delivery dates are estimates and not guaranteed. Risk of loss and title for the book passes to you upon delivery to the address you provided. If your book is lost in transit, please contact us and we will arrange a replacement.

It is your responsibility to ensure the delivery address you provide is accurate. We are not liable for orders delivered to incorrect addresses entered by you, though we will assist where reasonably possible.

Photographs and personalisation content you provide

To create your book, you provide us with a photograph of your child along with answers to a personalisation questionnaire. By providing this content you confirm and agree to the following:

  • You are the parent or legal guardian of the child featured, or you have explicit permission from a parent or legal guardian to upload the photograph and provide the personalisation details.
  • You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to use the photograph and personalisation content solely for the purpose of producing, illustrating, and delivering your book, and for related order fulfilment activities.
  • The photograph and content do not infringe the rights of any third party.
  • The content is not abusive, hateful, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise unlawful. We reserve the right to refuse to produce a book that contains such content.

You retain ownership of the photograph itself. We do not claim ownership of your photo. We will store and process the photograph only as set out in our Privacy Policy, and we will permanently delete it according to the retention periods stated there.

We will never use your child's photograph, your child's answers, or the finished personalised book for marketing or advertising purposes without your explicit consent.

Use of AI in creating illustrations

We use artificial intelligence tools, including character-reference image generation models, to create the illustrations in your child's book. Our process uses the photograph you upload to render your child as a recognisable character throughout the book's pages, including as the adult version of themselves in scenes depicting their dreams.

The AI tools we use are trained to produce illustrations in our defined visual style. The illustrations are reviewed before printing to ensure they meet our quality standards. If the illustrations are unsatisfactory, our happiness guarantee applies as set out above.

Intellectual property

When your book is delivered, you own the physical book. You may keep it, gift it, read it to your child, or do anything else you would normally do with a book you own.

However, the underlying creative work — including the story templates, the illustration style, the character generation system, the design and layout of the book, and the When I Grow Up brand — remains the intellectual property of Chambersole Limited. You may not:

  • Reproduce, copy, or print additional copies of the book or its illustrations.
  • Sell, distribute, or commercially exploit the book or its contents.
  • Modify the book and represent the modified version as our work.
  • Use the illustrations or any part of the book in derivative products, merchandise, or commercial materials.

You may take and share photographs of your child with their book on personal social media or with friends and family. This is encouraged.

The website, including all text, graphics, illustrations, code, and design, is the property of Chambersole Limited and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, or distribute any part of the website without our prior written consent.

Accounts and access

Our website does not require you to create an account to place an order. After purchase, we email you a private access link that allows you to complete the personalisation questionnaire for your book. This link is unique to your order and acts as your authentication for accessing the questionnaire.

You are responsible for keeping your access link secure. Do not share it with others. If you lose your access link, please contact us at info@whenigrowup.shop and we will reissue it.

Your conduct

When using our website and services, you agree not to:

  • Use the services for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose.
  • Submit content that is abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, threatening, or otherwise inappropriate.
  • Attempt to bypass any security measures, access tokens, or authentication systems.
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the website.
  • Use the services in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair our systems.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your relationship with a person or entity.

We reserve the right to terminate your access, refuse orders, or take other action if we reasonably believe you have breached these conduct terms.

Third-party services

Our website and order fulfilment process rely on third-party services, including Shopify (storefront and payments), Cloudflare (hosting and order processing), Klaviyo (email), and Lulu (printing and shipping). Your use of our services is subject to the terms of those third parties where relevant.

Our website may contain links to third-party websites that we do not control. We are not responsible for the content or practices of those websites and encourage you to review their terms and privacy policies.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of our services or any order placed is limited to the amount you paid for the order in question.

We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages, including loss of profits, loss of data, loss of goodwill, or any other intangible losses, arising from or related to your use of our services.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law.

Your statutory consumer rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected by these Terms.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our services, or legal requirements. We will post the updated Terms on the website and update the "Last updated" date. If the changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify you, including by email where appropriate.

Your continued use of our services after the updated Terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the services.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to our services at any time, without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or applicable law.

You may stop using our services at any time. If you have an open order at the point you stop, the contract for that order remains in force until completion or refund, as applicable.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms or your use of our services shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer based outside England and Wales, you may have additional rights under the consumer protection laws of your country, and nothing in these Terms is intended to limit those rights.

Before pursuing formal legal action, we encourage you to contact us first at info@whenigrowup.shop. The vast majority of disputes can be resolved quickly and informally.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or removed if modification is not possible, without affecting the validity or enforceability of the remaining provisions.
